The Jack Edison band presents, Rebirth of the Blues XI and Big Band Era Jazz, with soloists Lisa Velasco and The Northern Transfer Group, Friday, February 21st at 7:00 p.m., at St. John Divine. The band’s tune list includes, “Take the ‘A’ Train,” “Satin Doll,” handled in high-scat fashion by vocalist Lisa Velasco, “New York, New York,” “Love,” and other jazz and blues favorites. $10 tickets are available online at www.stjohndivine.com/events, also at the St. John Divine box office Sundays, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and at the door prior to the performance, if available. Harry Stanton, who heads The South Shore Brass, is the concert’s narrator. The Edison band members are Ken Easton, trumpet, Neil Theriault, tenor sax, Dave Evans, baritone sax, Dave Wolf, drums, Dave Brown, bass, Gary Tatlock, piano and Jack Edison, trombone. One big band musician, hearing the Edison band for the first time, exclaimed, “Amazing, how seven guys sound like seventeen.”
